Leon Benjamin, 84, of Manchester, died December 18, 2010 at Catholic Medical Center.
Mr. Benjamin was born in Honnigen, Germany, October 22, 1926 to Aaron and Berthe (Somer) Benjamin. He attended local schools there and came to this country in 1947.
He worked for BB Shoe and retired from there after 25 years.
He was a Mason, Superintendant of Anshe Sephard (Manchester Hebrew) Cemetery and the Synagog director in charge of Jewish rituals at Temple Israel where he was a member.
He enjoyed traveling by car, day trips and longer, and especially trips to Montreal, Canada.
IN HIS LIFETIME:
Members of his family include his wife, Madelaine Gilmartin, 3 sons, Colin Gilmartin of New Orleans, LA., Brendan Gilmartin of Manchester, and Ryan Gilmartin and his wife Jessica Johnson of Manchester, 2 granddaughters, Leila and Maya.
Services were held Sunday at Temple Israel followed by burial in Anshe Sephard Cemetery, Manchester.
The family will receive friends at the family residence, Monday and Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
