Madelyne Garren Evans
Madelyne Praytor Garren Evans, 87, of Arden, NC died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Universal Healthcare of Fletcher. She was a native of Buncombe County, NC and a prior resident of Charleston, South Carolina. She was a daughter of the late W.F. Praytor and Constance Presley Praytor and was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Joseph Garren in 1962 and by her second husband, Kenneth D. Evans in 2003. Three sisters, Frances, Faye, and Evelyn also preceded her in death.
She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross at the U.S. Naval Base in Charleston and served as a dedicated poll worker for the Democratic Party for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Garren-McKillip, and her husband Kirby, of Kemah, Texas; a son, Charles “Bud” Garren, Jr., of Arden; one brother, Frank Praytor of Knoxville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Charlie, Tim, Susan, and Jessica; and two great grandchildren, Josh and Megan.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday at Shepherd Memorial Park in Hendersonville, NC by Rev. Brenda Newman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church 4990 Dorchester Road North Charleston, SC 29418-5601.
