RICHFORD / ST.ALBANS – Marjorie O. Brown, age 95, passed away peacefully Friday evening February 18, 2005 encircled by her family in the home of her daughter and granddaughter. Her final weeks were spent surrounded by family, extended family, and dear friends, who celebrated her life with stories, laughter and tears.
For the past year her devoted daughter, Mary Jane lived with her and assisted her in the home Marjorie had lived in for twenty-nine years. Marjorie was well known for her delicious home cooking, her love of playing cards and her unfailing support of the current world champions Boston Red Sox.
Marjorie touched many lives and was treasured by all who had the gift of knowing her. Her amazing strength, joy of living and infectious laughter will be remembered always.
She was born July 6, 1909 in Richford the daughter of the late Wayne & Olive (Bolt) Combs. Her amazing life included helping to raise her four younger siblings when her mother passed away in childbirth. She married Leon H. Brown on October 24, 1931 in Richford and went on to raise their five children. She worked at various jobs over the years to support her family following the untimely death of her husband. She also provided child-care to the three children of Dr.’s Dale & Anne Hooper, and the three children of Dr. Henry Wirts and Linda Wirts, all of whom she loved and continued to keep in touch with. She was known as Nannie to her fourteen grandchildren, their spouses, and thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
She is survived by 3 sons, Leon Brown Jr. of Concord, NC, Roderick Brown and his wife Beverly, and Roger Brown and his wife Sandra all of Richford; 2 daughters, Beth Wilson of Rocky Hill, CT, and Mary Jane Sherrer of St. Albans; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, Leon Brown lll, his daughter Megan and her mother Lisa; Wade Brown and his wife Penny, their children Adam & Amy; Keith Brown and his wife Doreen, their children Peter & Matthew; Janelle Ingalls and her husband Bruce, their children Erik & Kyleigh; Valerie Laing and her husband Ross, their son Rory; David Brown; Bob Brown and his wife Lorraine; Scott Brown; Russ Brown and his wife Robin, their children Allie & C.J.; Sharon Malinowski and her husband Peter; Joey Wilson and his wife Alane, their children Michelle & Christy; Mark Wilson; Tim Sherrer and his wife Amy, their daughter Holly; Kim Sherrer; 2 brothers, Delbert Combs of Richford, and Orval Combs and his wife Mary of Fairfield; 1 sister, Evelyn Rowse of Beekmantown, NY; several nieces and nephews; her dear friends, former son-in-law, Walter Sherrer and his wife Judy of St. Albans; her former daughters-in-law, Sunny Brown & Wilma Lowery. She was predeceased by her husband Leon Brown in 1956; 1 grandson, Terry Brown; 1 brother, Myles Combs; 1 sister, Marguerite Combs; a son-in-law, Joseph Wilson
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon February 22 at 2:00 at the Richford Baptist Church with Pastor Lyle Willey and Pastor Bill Simmons of the St. Albans Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be next spring in the Richford Center Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held at the Church, Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 until the hour of the funeral.
