Mary Abate of Sloatsburg NY. entered into rest on Wednesday February 9, 2005 at Good Samaritan Hospital with her loving Family at her side. She was 85 years old.
Mrs. Abate was born on August 14, 1919 I Sloatsburg NY. to Antonio and Filomena Sorice. She was raised in Italy and came back to Sloatsburg in 1923 when she was 14 years old. Mary married Andrew Abate in 1940 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Tuxedo NY. She was employed as a seamstress at Rainbow Todd in Suffern for 25 years. She was a member of the I.L.G.W.U. (garment workers union) and she is still a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years Andrew of Sloatsburg; her 2 loving children Carmella (Cookie) Rutella of Sloatsburg and Andrew and his wife Silvia of Connecticut, her dear brothers and sisters; Josephine Caruso and Frank and his wife Antoinette Sorice and Anna and Joseph Cantoli of Middletown, Joseph Sorice and Angelina Vecchiano and her husband Salvatore of Sloatsburg, Rose and John Basanno of Goshen, Sam and Nina Sorice of Suffern and Carmella Tondo of Ramsey and sisters in law Rose Parker and Frances Sorice , her cherished grandchildren; Joseph Rutella, Andrea Diaz, AnneMarie Rutella, Adam and Steven Abate, her great grandsons Evan Sudan and Nathan Diaz. She is pre deceased by 1 brother Pellegrino Sorice.
Mrs. Abates funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday February 12, 2005 at 10am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Tuxedo, NY with her interment to follow in Maryrest Cemetery in Darlington, NJ. Her family will be present to receive friends on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Wanamaker & Carlough F.H., 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY.
