Mary Elizabeth Allen Obituary

1927 - 2007
Mary Elizabeth Hall Allen, 80, wife of L.D. Allen, Jr. died Monday, October 29, 2007 at Heartland Hospice House after an extended illness. She will be remembered for her passion for her Lord and His work in the church and in missions. She was an active member of Broadacres Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School and serving as their Womanís Missionary Union director for 40 years. She was also very involved in the music program at the church. She served as a volunteer at Godís Helping Hands for many years.

Mrs. Allen was born on October 17, 1927, in Calhoun Falls, S.C., the daughter of the late James William Hall and Bertha Manley Hall. She graduated from Calhoun Falls High School in 1944. She served as secretary of Holland Avenue Baptist Church and retired from S.C. National Bank.

She is survived by her devoted husband, L. D. Allen, Jr.; her son, Larry D. Allen of Cayce, and her daughter, Rhonda E. Allen of West Columbia. She had three brothers and sisters-in-law, William Garnett and Jeanette Hall of Honea Path, SC., John Esper and Rita Hall of Mauldin, SC. and Joe Curtis and Faye Hall of Mauldin, SC; nieces Kayla Sloan and Donna DeBrew; a nephew Johnny Hall; and a great-nephew, Trey Sloan.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Broadacres Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Officiating will be Dr. Donald F. West. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, in Greenwood, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Godís Helping Hands, 919 Holland Ave., Cayce, SC or to the Building Fund at Broadacres Baptist Church, 2350 Taylor Road, Cayce, SC 29033.
