BATTELLE, Nicholas Smith, 70, of White Stone, Va., formerly of Boston, Mass., died peacefully on July 1, 2012, surrounded by his family. Nick was a graduate of Blair Academy, Duke University and Columbia University Business School. He served in the United States Navy as a lieutenant aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge. His professional career was spent as an investment manager and co-founder of Lee Munder Capital Group. Nick was a former trustee of Blair Academy and member of the University Club and The Flycasters, both of Boston and Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, Kilmarnock, Va. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Katherine and Holly of New York City, N.Y.; brothers, Peter and his wife, Jean, of Williston, Vt., and Anthony and his wife, Taisiya, of Brookline, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, at St. Mary's Whitechapel Episcopal Church, 5940 White Chapel Road, Lancaster, Va.
