Ottis Abernathy, age 85, of Mt. Ida, died Saturday, April 5, 2003.
He was born on April 7, 1917, in Oden, the son of Alford Abernathy and Hettie Fryar Abernathy. On July 4, 1930, he was married to Almeda Tarkinton. He was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald and Orlin Abernathy, and two grandchildren.
He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Almeda Abernathy of Mt. Ida; one son and daughter-in-law, Loyal and Hettie Abernathy of Mt. Ida; two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma Jean and George Breashears of Story and Edith and Ronnie Young of Mt. Ida; two daughters-in-law, Alma Abernathy of Mt. Ida and Judy Chitwood of Royal; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Laurine and Elder Everett Abernathy and Julia and John Collins, all from Oden; two sisters-in-law, Bessie Abernathy of Mt. Ida and Beatrice Willard of Cloverdale, California; one brother-in-law, Charles Gibson of Ukiah, California; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 7, 2003, in the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Oden with Bro. Ronnie Noles and Bro. Paul Burke officiating.
Interment will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Montgomery County Nursing Home staff.
Visitation will be Sunday, 12:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
