Robert Eugene Campbell Robert Eugene Campbell passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Hospice House in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the age of 80, after a courageous five week battle with liver cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born on January 11, 1933, in Staunton, Virginia, the son of the late Theodore R. Campbell and Mabel C. East. He was preceded in death by sisters, Hazel "Sissy" Dooms and Judy Ann Copper; brothers, Thomas Ray "Tweets" Campbell and Donnie Wayne Campbell. He moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1959, to continue his love and passion of working with cars. Between Waynesboro and Charlottesville, he worked for Brand Chevrolet, Calhoun Chevrolet, Dominick Chevrolet, Jim Price Chevrolet and Cosner Brothers. He also managed Virginia Glass Company. In 1974, he opened up his own business, Campbell's Used Cars and Paint Shop in Troy, Virginia, and made many good friends and helped many people while buying, selling, repairing and painting cars over the next 39 years. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, his sweetheart, Barbara Anne Houchens Campbell; his children, Debra Sue Thornton of Palmyra, Virginia, Kimberly Leigh Lively of Charlottesville, Virginia, Patricia Lively Reynard and her husband, Don Reynard, of Palmyra, Virginia, Steve "Brother" Lively and his wife, Vickie Lively, of Afton, Virginia, Kathy Jean Campbell of Troy, Virginia, and Susan Anne Campbell Bernaldo and her husband, Dan Bernaldo, of Kents Store, Virginia; 15 grandchildren, Whitney Sites, Casey Powell, Douglas Phillips, Crystal Lively Dollens and her husband, Richard, Amber Lively, Tiffany Campbell and her husband, Chris, Loren Beale, Brittany Lively, Kaitlyn Lively, Brook Reynard, Morgan Reynard, Lucas Reynard, Lydia Reynard, and twins Jack Campbell Bernaldo and Grace Anne Bernaldo; great-grandchildren, Tyler Dollens and Liam Lively; sisters, Louise Richardson and Joan Gail Smith and her husband who was like a brother to him, Mike Smith; brother, Ned Jr. Campbell and his companion, Virginia Maupin; sister-in-law, Etta Campbell who was like a sister to him; niece, Leslie Smith Bretches and her husband, Chris; nephew, Tony Dooms and his wife, Charmin; a special uncle, Preston East and his wife, Phyllis; special cousins, Thomas Johnson and his wife, Helen, and Claude Campbell and his wife, Doris; and a host of other relatives and friends, including special friends Jinks and Olgene McDaniel, the Eaves family, the Pullen family, Bobby Irving, Rusty Wiebel, "Shorty" Norford, Sherman "Bud" Snead, Doug Haden, Lawrence Catlett, James Barnett, "Daddy Carroll" Martin and his Barber since 1959, Ed Shifflett. Robert was a uniquely generous man who never, ever met a stranger. He was truly the life of the party and brought joy and laughter to all that knew him. Cars, antique and otherwise, good country music and his family were his life. Family will receive friends Saturday evening, September 28, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville, Virginia. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home with Pastor James Carroll Martin Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hospice House, 501 Park St., Charlottesville, VA 22902.
