Bedford– Robert F. Ackerson, 77, died January 27, 2011 at Hanover Hill Healthcare Center following a long illness.
He was born in Manchester on October 2, 1933 the son of Elmer R. and Eugenia (Mitchell) Ackerson.
He graduated from St. Joseph High School class of 1951. He attended St. Anselm College and went on to run a successful State Farm Insurance Agency for 35 years until his retirement in 1995.
He held membership in the Precious Blood League of A Thousand Men, was a golf member and past secretary of Manchester Country Club, a parishioner of St. Raphael Church where he served on the Parish Council, Pastor’s Advisory Board, Finance Committee, and choir. He also gave his time to the St. Raphael Church Food Pantry for 12 years. He was a musician, loved golf, restoring military jeeps, and was an avid enthusiast and collector of model trains.
In His Life: Family members include his wife of 54 years, Arlene (Fonteyn) Ackerson of Bedford, one daughter, Sandra Ackerson and her husband Michael Clougherty of Goffstown, two sons, Peter Ackerson and his wife Christiane, John Ackerson and his wife Janeen, all of Bedford, 2 grandchildren, Jonathan and Kristen Ackerson, 2 step grandchildren, Greg and Lauren Goupil, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Elmer R. Ackerson Jr.
Services: Calling hours will be on Monday from 4 to 8 PM at Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St., corner of Beech St. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM in St. Raphael Church, 103 Walker St.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
