Sheldon John Carlson, 71, died at Norman Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012.
Sheldon was born September 1st, 1940 in Barron, Wisconsin to Helmer and Helen (Gullicksrude) Carlson. He lived in Norman, Oklahoma with his wife Sue and worked as a clinical director for substance abuse treatment. He graduated from Barron High School of Barron, Wisconsin. He received a Bachelor of Social Work from The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, then a Master of Social Work from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. He married Sue Kirby Gambrell on June 8th, 1985 in Madison, Wisconsin. He served our country in the US Army for six years where he was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Fort Lewis, Washington; Korea, Germany, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Sheldon was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church of Almena, Wisconsin, and currently attended The Vine Church of Norman, Oklahoma.
Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents, Helmer and Helen Carlson.
Sheldon is survived by: his wife Sue, of the home in Norman, Oklahoma; Sons, Scott Carlson of Barron, Wisconsin and Brian Gambrell of Norman, Oklahoma; Daughter Rochelle Gambrell Somers with husband Nate Somers of Savage, Minnesota; Grandson Carter Tweith of Savage, Minnesota; Granddaughter Olivia Gambrell-Byrd of Savage, Minnesota; Great-Grandchildren Mani Smith and Jaylen Tweith; Sister Carol Bolster with husband Keith Bolster of Almena Wisconsin; Brothers Jerry Carlson with wife Carol of Bayfield, Wisconsin and Dennis Carlson with wife JoAnne of Casa Grande, Arizona; sister-in-laws Peggy Parker with Eugene Parker of Sentinel, Oklahoma and Nancy Cowan with husband Aubrey Cowan of Pharr, Texas; along with nieces, nephews, and many other numerous family and friends.
Services will begin at 2pm on Saturday, February 11th, 2012, at Trinity Baptist Church, 801 Peters Ave., Norman, OK.
