TROY – Silverio Acosta, 83, of Sixth Avenue, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Stratton DVA Medical Center in Albany, after a long illness.
Born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Juan Acosta, and Jobita Colon Acosta.
He was a graduate of Salinas High School, and later earned an associates degree.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving from 1944 to 1946. He has lived in the United States for more than 50 years.
Mr. Acosta worked for Segorki Aircraft Corp. in Bridgeport, CT for several years,
and later was a lobbyist with a New York City law firm.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God- The Lord Is Near, and was active in community and church events.
Survivors include his daughter, Doris Pino of Troy,
two grandsons; Raphael Torres and Marangeli Buckmon both of Troy,
five great grandchildren; Joslyn Torres, Khadijah Buckmon, Khazeera Buckmon,
Beyonce Buckmon, and Raphael Torres III all of Troy.
Silverio was predeceased by his wife, Juanita Rolon Acosta in 1979.
The funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the McLoughlin & Mason
Funeral Home, corner of 109th St. and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh, with Rev. Miguel Estrada, officiating. Calling hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.
Burial will be on Monday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
