Waldo Thomas Burke, 81, of Manchester, died October 15, 2008 at the Elliot Hospital following a sudden illness.
Mr. Burke was born in Manchester, February 23, 1927 to Thomas F. and Laura (Orrill) Burke. He attended local schools and graduated from Manchester Central High School. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester.
He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving with the military police.
He worked as a truck driver for GTE Sylvania from 1961 until his retirement in 1992.
Mr. Burke was a member and past president of Heel and Toe Square Dance Club, a member of N.E. Square Dance Foundation, the Eastern District Square and Round Dance Association, where he was chairman for 7 years, and High Hopes of St. Pius X Church, where he was a communicant.
Members of his family include his wife of 57 years: Pauline (Charbonneau) Burke of Manchester, several nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St., corner of Beech St.
The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Candia Rd. followed by encryptment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Manchester.
