Anita M. Monnier, 90, of Pike Avenue, Attleboro, formerly a twenty-five year resident of Hope Garden in Attleboro, died peacefully Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late George L. Monnier who died on January 12, 1956.
Born Anita A. McEleny in Attleboro on October 1, 1917, Anita was a daughter of the late Hugh and Mary Ann (Maguire) McEleny. A lifelong resident of Attleboro, Anita was raised and educated in Attleboro and was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1935.
Mrs. Monnier was employed as a sales correspondent at Texas Instruments in Attleboro for twenty years specializing in the General Electric and the General Motor accounts until retiring in 1975. After retiring, Anita was a sales representative at Harwich Reality for several years until returning to Attleboro upon the opening of Hope Garden Apartments.
Anita summered for decades in West Harwich and enjoyed Cape Cod. She also enjoyed reading mystery novels, knitting with the knitting group at the North Attleboro Senior Center and spending time with her children and in later years her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Monnier is survived by two loving daughters: Jane-Ann Brady and Judith A. Monnier, both of Attleboro; three grandchildren: Lisa Brady, Steven Brady and Erin Brady-Lee, all of Attleboro; nine great-grandchildren: Evan Leighton, Chani Leighton, Alia Petrucci, Joey Petrucci, Cole Brady, Jesse Lee, Devyn Lee, Jared Lee and Dylan Lee; two nieces; a nephews; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was the beloved sister of the late Eugenia A. Morin.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours today – Thursday, April 10, 2008 from 6 PM – 8 PM in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A funeral will be conducted on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 10 AM from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro celebrated by the Rev. Philip A. Davignon, Pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville.
Mrs. Monnier will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, George, in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth.
