Ralph Dowell Obituary

1910 - 2004
Mr. Ralph Dowell, 94, of 1282 Myers Mill Road, Olin, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at Brian Center in Statesville. Mr. Dowell was born July 26, 1910, in Iredell County, and was the son of the late Edward W. and Gelania M. Dowell. On October 24, 1927, he married Flora Dell Mitchell who preceded him in death on June 5, 1991. Mr. Dowell was a farmer and also worked at Comers Store and Iredell Livestock. He was a member of Grassy Knob Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge #471 AF & AM. He served as Director of Yadkin Valley Telephone Membership Corporation, was a member of the Woodmen of the World, and was on the ASC of Iredell County.

Mr. Dowell is survived by one son: Dennis Dowell and his wife, Diane, of Olin; three grandchildren: Dana D. Nicholson, and her husband, Danny, of Statesville, Denita Dowell of Memphis, TN, and Dirk Dowell of Statesville; three great-grandchildren: Devin and Daniel Nicholson and Daelyn Dowell, all of Statesville; two sisters: Mary Dowell and Mrs. Bill (Bartley) Long, both of Statesville; and one brother: Bruce Dowell of Winston-Salem.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 Thursday at Grassy Knob Baptist Church with Rev. James Miles officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Wednesday evening at Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony and at other times will be at the residence.
