Mrs. Helen Mae Heafner Adams, 86, of 386 Garden Valley Road died Thursday evening at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Catawba County on August 25, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Dow Henry Heafner and Dottie L. Smith Heafner. She was a member of Houstonville Baptist Church and owned and operated Garden Valley Nursery for 46 years in the Cool Spring community. She was known as the Azalea Lady.
On June 27, 1936 she married Mr. Vance Edward Adams, Sr. who died in 1991. She was also preceded in death by a son, Vance Edward Adams, Jr. in 1991 and a daughter, Barbara Jean Adams in 1938.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Ann Boger of Advance, three grandchildren, Juanita May Harney of Mocksville, Billiejoe Bryant of Lillington and William Talbert Boger of Advance, one brother, Ross Heafner and one sister, Wenona Hodge, both of Newton, N.C. Seven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday at Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Sidney Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Saturday evening at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
