Amelia Candido

Amelia Sa (Miranda) Candido, 72, Fall River, died Thursday at home. She was the wife of the late Joao Candido.

Born in Camacha, Madeira Island on August 4, 1936. The daughter of the late Joao Nobrega Miranda and Genoveva Sa Miranda. Mrs. Candido resided in Fall River for the past 24 years.

She worked as a machine operator for Tillotson Rubber for 12 years until her retirement.

Mrs. Candido was an active member of Santo Christo Church and also its Holy Rosary Society. She attended Portuguese prayer groups at Espirito Santo Church and other religious activities in the Portuguese community with her best friend in America, Alvina Matos, with whom, she also made weekly visits to local nursing homes. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family here in Fall River, England and Madeira.

She is survived by seven daughters, Maria do Espirito Santo Miranda and her husband Joao of UK, Maria Fatima Miranda of the UK, Maria Salome Bento and her husband Jaime of Fall River, MA; Celina Candido, Maria Gabriela Candido both of Fall River, MA; Suzel Candido and her husband Jose Vieira of East Providence, RI; Maria Madalena Miranda of Camacha, Madeira; five sons, Antonio Joao Miranda and his wife Dina of New Bedford, MA; Jose Samuel Miranda and his wife Lucia of the UK; Joao Paulo Candido and his wife Elsa of the UK; Ilidio Candido and his wife Sonia of the UK; Angelo Miguel Candido and his wife Paula of Fall River, MA; a sister Fatima Miranda a brother Joao Miranda both of Madeira; 31 grandchildren 5 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren. She leaves three life long friends Maria Ornelas, Maria Sousa and Maria Jose D'Alu. She was also the mother of the late Maria do Rosario Candido, Artur Jorge Candido, Albino Candido, sister of the late Jose, Francisco, Virginia and Piedade Miranda, mother-in-law of the late Connie Miranda.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home 2064 South Main St. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours Monday 6 - 9 p.m.
