Jose F. Amorim, 67, of One Bellmore Street, Attleboro, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010 in Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Pacheco) Amorim.
Born in the Azores on February 28, 1943, he was a son of the late Antonio and Maria (Fernandes) Amorim.
Jose came to the United States in 1968. Jose was a hardworking man who retired from Texas Instruments due to illness after working for twenty years. He was a communicant of Holy Ghost Church, and a member of the Portuguese American Club. He also enjoyed spending time working in his garden.
In addition to his wife Maria, Jose is survived by three children: Cecilia Amorim of Florida, Carma Aftosmes of Attleboro, and Denis Amorim of Seekonk, his siblings: Francisco Silva, Antonio DaSilva, John Amorim, Isabel Galvao, Judyth Lopes, Fatima Gaspar, Theresa Bianco, and Philomena Viveiros, all of Attleboro, and Mary Ferreira of New Bedford. Also survived by six grandchildren: Veronica L. McCarthy, Meridith A.P. Moreau, Derek Moreau, Jr., Penelope C. Schweitzer, Nikolas B. Amorim, and Nathan L. Amorim.
He was the brother of the late Manuel Amorim.
A funeral will be conducted on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 9:30 AM from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Holy Ghost Church, 71 Linden Street, Attleboro, celebrated by Rev. John Murray, Pastor. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home Thursday evening, 4-8 PM. Mr. Amorim will be laid to rest in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Attleboro.
