Luciano Alves, 63, a father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully in Sturdy Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 29, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Fagundes) Alves.
Born in Terceira, Azores on January 8, 1947, he was a son of the late Sylvestre and Emilia (Godinho) Alves Deniz. Luciano was educated in the Azores and served in the Portuguese Army for two years in Africa.
Luciano worked as a precious metal cutter for many years before retiring due to illness. He worked for Engelhard Company, Criterion Metals, and Copper and Brass Co. He enjoyed making wine, pruning his fruit trees, fishing, and attending Portuguese Carnival Dances. His greatest joy was in spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Maria, Luciano is survived by three sons: Luciano M. Alves of Attleboro, Steve Alves of Attleboro, and Larry Alves of Attleboro, a brother: Dimas Deniz of Toronto, Canada, and three grandchildren: Kassandra Alves, Victoria Alves, and Bethany Alves, all of Attleboro.
A funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 10 AM from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Saint John the Evengelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro, celebrated by Rev. Richard Roy, Pastor. Visiting hours will be held in the Duffy- Poule Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, 5-9 PM. Mr. Alves will be laid to rest in St. Johnís Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro.
