 Rev. Msgr. Ferdinand J. DeCneudt, a servant to his Lord as a priest since 1939, died Sunday afternoon in St. John Macomb Hospital at the age of 98.
Msgr. was born in Ghent Belgium on September 23, 1912, a son of the late Edmond and Colette (Blanchard) DeCneudt. He arrived in New York with his parents and three sisters on the Fourth of July in 1920. He attended St. Catherin Elementary School, then Cass Technical High School before entering Sacred Heart Seminary. After he was ordained in 1939, Fr. DeCneudt served as an assistant pastor at Our Lady of Sorrows, and then at Our Lady of Victory, a mission to the black community. He was the pastor of Madonna Parish before going to Our Lady Queen of All Saints, where he built the present church. He was named a monsignor in 1969 and retired from the parish in 1982. The oldest practicing priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit, He was a man who has devoted his life to serving God.
Msgr.was the Beloved brother of the late Alice DeSchryver, Sister Stephanie DeCneudt S.S.J. and Lucy DeWinter. Preceded in death also by Nephew, Martin DeWinter and Niece Alice L. Grant, grand nephews, Martin DeWinter and Paul E. Begin. He is survived by his grand nieces and nephews Sandra J. Turnbull, Susan M. Burgard, John C. Begin and Michael W. Grant and by many great grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Rd., Fraser, Wednesday from 2pm till 9pm and Friday at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Church of Fraser from 12 noon till 9pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, 11am at the church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery of Roseville
