1941 - 2003
ZEPHERHILLS, FL / RICHFORD, VT - Roger A. Caples, age 62, passed away Saturday October 11, 2003 at his home following a brief illness with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

He was born June 15, 1941 in Old Town, ME the son of Lida (Jewett) Caples and the late Arnold Caples.

Roger grew up in Richford and was a graduate of the Richford High School. Following high school Roger entered the U.S.Army and was based in Germany during the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the service he became a plumber, working for his uncle, Martin Jewett in Brattleboro, VT. He later joined the Pipefitters and Plumbers Union # 64 in Northampton, MA. He continued working for the union until his declining health forced him to stop. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Eagles Club all in Brattleboro.

He is survived by his mother, Lida Caples of Richford; 2 daughters and their husbands, Lori & Jeff Shaw of Bernardston, MA, and Jennifer & Sean O'Connell of Colrain, MA; 2 sons, Clayton Caples and his wife, Jennifer of Greenfield, MA, and Joseph Caples of Rutland, VT; 5 grandchildren, Kyle Nartowicz, Jocelyn Rickey, Jasmine & Nelly O'Connell, and Lydia Caples; 4 sisters, Cheryl Patterson and her husband Stephen of Richford, VT, Lenna Caples and her dear friend Brenda Smith of Hinsdale, NH, Nancy Marston and her husband Mark of Richford, VT, and Kelly Sanborn and her husband Steven of Costa Rica; 2 brothers and their wives, Charles & Lisa Caples of Rochester, NY, and Martin & Kristi Caples of Anderson, IN; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning October 17, 2003 at 10:00 at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Rev. Frank Eksterwoicz celebrating the mass of Christian burial. Graveside services will take place on Friday afternoon at 2:00 at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT.

Visiting hours will be held Friday morning from 8:45 to 9:45 at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford, VT
