Alma Hope Carpenter Apperson Alma Hope Carpenter Apperson, age 95, of Sparta, Va., formerly of Culpeper, Va., passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, September 3, 2011. Hope was born on November 7, 1915, to Elizabeth Jacobs Carpenter and Harvey Carpenter, Sr. of Mitchells, Va. She was a member of the Alum Springs Baptist Church, where she was once active as a Sunday School teacher and leader of the G.A.'s; was active with the 4-H program and a member of the Eggbornsville Home Demonstration Club and the Eggbornsville Garden Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Robison of White River Junction, Vt. and Peggy Lou Brown and her husband Bruce of Sparta, Va., two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter P. Apperson; her brother, Harvey Carpenter, Jr. and sister, Margaret Carpenter.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home, Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John S. Farrar conducting the service. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time.
