Richard Eugene Bush, 81, went peacefully to his heavenly home on January 22, 2013 at the Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Mo.
He was born September 9, 1931 to Myrtle and Kenneth Bush in Independence, Mo. He grew up in Courtney, Mo and Pleasanton, Ks areas before graduating from Fontana High School. He joined the US Navy in 1951. He was discharged after 6 years of service with a rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. He married Shirley Hutchins on May 29, 1955. They have 2 daughters, Paula J. (Bush) Ondras and Donna L (Bush) McArthur. After working at the Leeds Plant in Kansas City, Mo for 5 years, he worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 25 years. Richard loved to garden and grow beautiful flowers in his yard. He acquired his love of plants from his Grandfather, Benjamin F. Bush, who was a well known botanist and postmaster in Courtney, MO. Richard also had a collection of Indian artifacts that he collected with his father, Kenneth Bush, around Courtney, Mo.
He was proceed in death by his mother and stepfather, Myrtle and Roy Hockett; his father and step mother, Kenneth and Martha Bush and his brother, Bill Casper.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Bush; daughters, Paula Ondras; Donna McArthur and son-in-law Terry; three grandchildren, Brandy Fisher, Kimberly McArthur and Travis McArthur and wife Caroline; one great granddaughter, Alexis Fisher; two brothers, Kenneth (Norman) Bush and wife Betty, Roy Casper and wife Wilma and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wants to thank the Veterans Home in Warrensburg for the excellent care that was given him during his residence at the home. They go above and beyond to make sure our veterans are taken care of with love and dignity.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or the in Richard's memory.
Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 25, 2013 at New Salem Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10 to 11:00 A.M., prior to the service. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
