Shirley Jean Stone Angel, age 77, of Hot Springs, passed away Monday, December 15, 2003, at a local hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born on September 10, 1926, at Willow, Arkansas, the daughter of Garland and Myrt Celeste Rucker Stone. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Conway Stone.
She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a homemaker. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. For more than thirty years, she was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church and a worker in its nursery ministry.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Joe Angel; four children and spouses, Becky and Richard Trantham of Great Britain, Beverly and Jim Hale of Royal, Sherry and Don Newton of Louisville, Kentucky, and Chuck and Jill Angel of Atlanta, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, Amy Ferringer, Bethany Hale, Jenny Hale, Timothy Hale, Jonathan Newton, Matthew Newton, Caleb Newton, Celeste Angel, Joseph Angel, Charrissa Angel, and Caleigh Angel; three great-grandchildren, Eli Feldman, Joel Ferringer, and Gavin Ferringer; one sister and brother-in-law, Frieda and Dale Rowe of Gadsden, Alabama; and numerous extended family members.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 18, 2003, in the Grand Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Angel, Rev. Stacy Sanders and Rev. Mike Pounders officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6 PM to 8 PM.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Tim English and staff, Ollie Herrington, Ann Joseph, Heidi Gilbert, and the Montgomery County Nursing Home staff.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grand Avenue Baptist Church, 324 Autumn Street, Hot Springs, AR 71901.
Interment will be in the Crestview Cemetery, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
