James Thomas Allen, 80, of Caledonia, MS passed away Thursday, August 24, 2006 at his residence.
Visitation will be will be Saturday, August 26, 2006, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Glenn Edmonds officiating. Interment will be in Rowan Cemetery, Caledonia, MS, with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Allen was born November 14, 1925 in Fernbank, AL to the late Myrt F. and Myrtle Rector Allen. He had lived in this area for the past 32 years, having moved from New Jersey. Mr. Allen served in the Navy, Coast Guard, and the U. S. Air Force, retiring in 1966, after 23 years. He was a member of the Local V.F.W. Post 4272, American Legion Post No.69, the Air Force Association, and Border Springs Baptist Church, Caledonia, MS. Mr. Allen was an avid Alabama Football fan, an accomplished fisherman, and was well know for his vegetable gardens. Mr. Allen is preceded in death by his wife, Helena Allen; brothers, Edward J. Allen, Cecil Allen, Hezzie Allen; and a grandson, Nathan Allen.
Mr. Allen is survived by sons, Dennis C. (Melinda) Allen, Charlottesville, VA and James E. (Leanne) Allen, Cape May Court House, NJ; daughter, Nancy A. (Roger) Harper, Columbus, MS; brother, Frank ( Nancy) Allen, Columbus, MS; sisters, Vadus (Roy) Johnson and Grace (Cliff), both of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Alyssa L. Allen, Cape May Court, NJ and Tyler D. Harper, Columbus, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Joe Allen, Tommy Johnson, Tom Johnson II, Mickey Allen, Ronnie Hankins, and Tommy Wiggins.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Menís Sunday School Class at Border Springs Baptist Church.
