Mr. John Barber, Jr., 82, of Peverly Rd., Northfield, NH, died at his home on April 25, 2004.
He was born in Taunton, Mass. on March 30, 1922 the son of John and Josephine (Monteiro) Barber, Sr.
Mr. Barber was raised in Taunton and later resided in Norton, Mass. and Pawtucket, RI before moving to Northfield in 1986.
During World War II, he served in the US Army as a PFC seeing action in Central Europe and Northern France and The Rhineland. He was the recipient of several awards including the Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He was formerly employed by the City of Pawtucket Municipal Services Dept. and later as a custodian for Hilsinger Corp. in Plainville, Mass. until retiring. While in NH, he worked at the West Franklin Sunoco Station and various construction jobs. He enjoyed puttering around his yard.
Family members include his wife, Laura (Rogers) Barber of Northfield; 10 children: John Barber III of Somerville, Mass.;Mary Barber of West Virginia; Minnie Barber of Pawtucket; Paula McDonough of Attleboro, Mass.; Cindy Pardo of North Attleboro, Mass.; Kathy Droney of Hill, NH; Sandy Sanborn of Franklin, NH; Doreen Moroney of Cumberland, RI; Laura Barber of Fall River, Mass.; and Henry Barber of Pawtucket; 28 grandchildren, a sister, Dorothy Duart of Newport, RI, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, William Barber who died in 2000.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 28th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, 104 Park St., Northfield, NH. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 10 am, Burial will be in NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.
