RICHFORD – Robert W. Billado, age 83, passed away Monday July 5, 2004 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans with his loving family at his side.
He was born February 23, 1921 in Enosburg Falls the son of the late Clyde W. & Olive M. (Stanhope) Billado.
He was a resident of Enosburg Falls most of his life and for the past 12 years made his home in Richford. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWll serving in Germany where he was a survivor of a P.O.W. Camp and received the Purple Heart & Bronze Star. He started his working career as a laborer for the Bates Monument Co. in Enosburg Falls. He then worked as the general manager of the American Legion Post # 42 of Enosburg Falls. He also was a construction Worker for S.T. Griswold Construction which later became Layfayette Construction Co. In his last employment he owned and operated Billado’s Citgo in Enosburg Falls.
Bob had a large collection of watches and clock’s and enjoyed attending yard sales. He enjoyed music, playing the harmonica, accordion, organ and hunting. He also loved his animals but most of all he loved and cherished his family whom he was always there for. They could not have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather or great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Velma (LaFrance) Billado of Richford; 3 sons, Robert Billado Jr. and his wife Theresa of Whitehall, NY, Jeffrey Billado of Enosburg Falls, and Ricky Billado of Richford; 8 daughters and their spouses, Carolyn & John Cooper of Enosburg Falls, Diana & Arnold Lagrow of Franklin, Connie & William Barton of Goldsboro, NC, Susan Rice of Marietta, GA, Ruth & Frederick Cooper Sr. of Franklin, Joyce Billado of Enosburg Falls, Doreen & Ernest Corey of Franklin, and Tammy & James Gendron of Richford; 34 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 3 soon to be born great grandchildren; his brother, Charles Billado and his wife Lorraine of Albany, NY; several nieces and nephews; his brothers-in-law, Harlan LaFrance and his wife Florence, Carlton LaFrance and his wife Bertha, and twins, Lawrence and Lewis LaFrance all of Highgate; his cats Midget, Muffin, Squaker. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a grandson, John Cooper Jr.; a great granddaughter, Jordan Callan; 2 brothers, Donald Billado, and Clyde Billado Jr; a sister, Marguerite Simmons; his cat, Missy.
Funerals services will be held Friday July 9, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.
