Elma Benoit Obituary

1908 - 2003
ENOSBURG FALLS - Elma M. Benoit, age 94, died peacefully Friday April 25, 2003 at the home she had loved for 30 years.

She was born in Sheldon, June 20, 1908 the daughter of the late Benjamin & Ella (Girard) Myott .

On September 20, 1930 she married Harland Benoit, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1990. Harland predeceased her September 9, 1992. Elma & Harland ran the family farm for 30 years, where she was in charge of the milkroom, raised the calves and ran the syrup business. They won the soil conservation award for 1966 and received the century farm award. Last year, Elma represented the class of 1927 at the EFHS reunion.

She was a 60 year member of the Tyler Branch Grange # 498 holding the office of Lecturer and Chaplin. She was also a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Ladies of St. Anne's Society.

She was proud of her flowers and garden, giving most of the produce away and played cards at least once a week.

She is survived by her 3 sons and their wives, Robert & Jean Benoit of Blacksburg, VA, Paul & Sally Benoit of East Hartford, CT, and Larry & Sandy Benoit of Enosburg; 7 grandchildren, Beth of Chelmsford, MA, Denise of Knoxsville, MD, Paul of Fayetville, AR, Betsey of Wethersfield, CT, Nickelle of Miami, FL, Carmen of Virginia Beach, VA, and Megan of Lawrenceville, GA; 5 great grandchildren; her sister, Ella-Mae Rotella of South Burlington; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, B.Frank Myott and Lawrence Myott; 3 sisters, Ruth Seaver, Hortense Sorrell and Doris Mazza; a step brother, Guilford King.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 6, 2003 at 11:00 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Benedict Kiely celebrating the mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Monday May 5, 2003 from 6-9 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
