Frances Goldfarb Obituary

GOLDFARB Frances Spivack Goldfarb, age 98, died Friday, March 27, 2009 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. Born in Bridgeport in 1908, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Rebecca Goldstein Spivack and was a lifelong resident of the city. She graduated from Bridgeport High School and, a short time later, began working as a secretary for the Jewish Family Service under the Executive Director, Fred Stern. Her conscientiousness, dedication and loyalty were quickly recognized and she was elevated to the Assistant to the Director where she remained for almost four decades. In retirement, Mrs. Goldfarb also used her office skills at Bridgeport Janitorial Services in Bridgeport for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Goldfarb; and her sister, Sylvia Lear. Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon and Sylvia Spivack of Bridgeport, and Dr. Theodore and Frances Spivack of Stratford; and her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Eugene Fitelson of Bridgeport. She also leaves 11 nieces and nephews, 18 grand-nieces and nephews, as well as her step-daughter, Leona Attenberg, and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Louise Weintraub Linsky. Frances was a devoted sister and aunt and will be deeply missed by her family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Family Service. Graveside services will take place on Monday, March 30, at 3 p.m. at B'nai Israel Cemetery on Kings Highway in Fairfield. A shiva minyan will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the home of Carol and Michael Weinshel. The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home of Fairfield is in care of the arrangements.
