Knisely, Robert Dale
Nov 26, 1922 - Mar 26, 2009
Nebraska City, NE. Passed away at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, NE. Bob was born in Shubert, NE to Francis Baker and Pearle LuLu (Shubert) Knisely. In 1940 he graduated from Shubert High School, after which he attended Chillicothe Business College. On February 23, 1943, Bob and Marjorie Lee Simmons were united in marriage. Soon thereafter, Bob enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps where he captained B-17 and B-29 bombers. After the War, Bob founded Midwest Construction Company that became a nationally recognized heavy construction contractor for over 56 years. Headquartered in Nebraska City, Midwest performed projects all over the United States including: harbors on the Great Lakes; channel stabilization and levee work on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers; breakwater and hurricane protection on the Gulf Coast: and pipeline projects in the Southwestern states. Bob and Marjorie's substantial philanthropy over the years to the community was mostly without recognition in that they preferred to remain anonymous. Many times resources were provided to others to give them an opportunity to actively participate in community enhancement and improvements. The Kniselys were known to extend their kindness and aid to assist many individuals in times of need.
Many people remember Bob for his love of Husker football, either by receiving tickets to see the Huskers play in Lincoln or by flying with him to away games. Others would remember Bob for his friendliness and quick humor. All would agree that Bob was a very driven and focused individual who loved and lived his work. A loving father, Bob was very proud of his children and their families. Survivors clude his wife of 66 years, Marjorie, of Nebraska City; son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Gail Knisely of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; daughter Rita Knisely of Laguna Beach, CA; and daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Bob Meredith of Mission Viejo, CA. Also surviving are six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Nelda Knisely of Lincoln and Dorothy "Polly" Sailors of Nebraska City; other relatives and many friends. Predeceasing Bob were his parents, brother Francis "Boyd" Knisely; and sister Jeanne A. Krauser.
