NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. — Mary O. "Nelly" Richard, 82, of 114 Post Road, North Hampton, N.H., passed away peacefully Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Webster at Rye, N.H.
Nelly was born July 4, 1927 in Lawrence, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Gallant) Gaudette. Raised in Lawrence, Nelly attended local schools and graduated Saint Ann High School, Class of 1946. She graduated from Saint Joseph School of Nursing in Lowell in 1951.
Mary's nursing career spanned three decades, and during that time she worked in several facets of health care at Exeter Hospital, and continued private duty throughout the New Hampshire Seacoast.
Nelly was actively involved with the Friends of the North Hampton Library, Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae, and the Seacoast Hospice. She was also a devout and active member of St. Theresa of Lisieux Church of Rye Beach, N.H.
Mary is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Gerald C. Richard of North Hampton; their sons, Gerald C. Richard, Jr. and his wife Michelle, and David J. Richard of Kittery, Maine. Nelly leaves further her grandsons, Nicholas and Kyser Richard and their mother Nancy Kingsbury of York, Maine. She is further survived by her brothers and sisters, Kenneth C. Gaudette and his wife Lee of Lawrence, Lorraine (Mrs. Leo) Jutras of Hampstead, N.H., Mary A. (Mrs. Newman) Palmer of River Head, Long Island, New York.
Several nieces, nephews, and extended family, including Robert V. "Vic" Lessard of Hampton, N.H., also survive. Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Laure Ann Richard who died in 1968; her sister, Therese Gaudette; her sister-in-law, Olive F. (Richard) Lessard; and her niece, Lois Ann Lessard-Slager.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church, 820 Central Road, Rye Beach, N.H., Friday morning, March 26, 2010 at 10 a.m. Family and friends are invited to call to the Robert K. Gray, Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, N.H., on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment in the family lot, Center Cemetery, North Hampton, will be private.
