Former University of Florida cornerback Avery Atkins was found dead in a car parked inside his aunt's garage in Port Orange.
Essie Austin, Atkins' aunt, said she found the 20-year-old inside the locked car shortly after 8 a.m. The car was backed into the garage and the keys were on the ground in front of the vehicle.
Atkins was one of the nation's top recruits in 2005, and had a breakout performance in UF's season finale against Florida State two years ago.
He was one of UF's top players during spring practice in 2006, but missed the final five days of practice. Coach Urban Meyer said at the time that Atkins was attending to family matters.
