Howard W. Cook

COOK, HOWARD W., 88, died Friday, March 28 at Cortland Place Lifecare Community, Smithfield. He was the husband of Dorothy (Klowan) Cook.

Born, in Hyde Park, Mass., a son of the late Louis and Dorothy (Wood) Cook, he had lived in Cumberland for the past sixty-seven years. He was a direct descendent of John and Priscilla Alden.

Mr. Cook was a salesman, and was a Christmas tree farmer, operating Cook's Christmas Tree Farm. He was an avid chess player and attended the National Chess Championship in Las Vegas every year. He founded Swen Brask Chess Club, North Attleboro, Mass., and was a member of the National Chess Federation. He was a member of the Rhode Island Christmas Tree Growers Association. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a communicant of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Cumberland.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Howard W. Cook, Jr. of Marco Island, FL; and John K. Cook of East Greenwich; four grandchildren, Patricia Bruno, Jonathon Cook, Stephen Cook, M.D., and Shelby Kornbluth; and seven great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Muriel Kinder.

A Requiem Eucharist will be held Tuesday, April 1 at 10:30 a.m. in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 120 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland. Burial, with military honors, will be in Diamond Hill Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. in BELLOWS-FALSO FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
