For Larry...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I am deeply saddened by Larry's death. A wonderful, talented and humorous man. i met Mr. Haines during my college days and was a friend of his daughter Debora ( Debby) at Jacksonville University.
I was shocked and saddened to read that Debora had passed on ...a lot of her old friends have been searching for her. What happened?
Thanks and blessings to all.

I had the pleasure of interviewing him for a podcast show on soaps in 2005.

The interview is up now on YouTube.

He was a very gracious individual. I hope that he will be remembered not just for the more than 35 years he did on SFT, but also for his his stage work as well as his work in the early days of radio and live TV.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Haines, and thank you.

I too grew up watching Search for Tomorrow. It was a great show. I also remember the 15 min version and then eventually the 30 minutes. Characters were real and Stu and Joanns relationship was like brother and sister kidding each other in a nice way. Those were the days of the Classic Soap Operas. He will be missed by many and he was always a joy to watch in character.

I remember when I was younger watching "Stu" in the soap opera where he acted at that time. And being a soap, there was some intrigue, misbehaviour, lies, etc.; however, "Stu's" character was the only character who shined as a nice, decent, likeable person. And I dare to say that this is how he also was in his real life. It came accross the screen.
Another good soul has risen to be with the Lord. May he rest in peace.

My mother used to put me in the swing in front of the TV set so that she (and I) could watch Search for Tomorrow. As I got older, I continued to watch. I guess you do become part of your soap opera family and look forward to the forthcoming episodes. Thank you, Mr. Haines, for your appealing character and for bringing such wonderful, wonderful memories to all of us "boomers" who grew up with the best that television had to offer coming of age in the 60's. Now, too bad those old episodes weren't available on DVD/VHS!! God speed and hope to meet you someday on that sunny shore......

We were raised watching "Search for Tomorrow". In the fifties, my mom and the neighbor lady would get together every week day morning, visit a while as they drank their coffee and then watch "the stories". Yes, I remember Mr. Haines, or rather Stu Bergman very well. I watch when it was 15 minutes long, and eventually grew to an hour. You did not have to send your kids out of the room to watch SFT? How I could iron watching the show. Mr Haines was a great actor that will be missed by many. What a wonderful voice he had.

Anne Archer

July 24, 2008

To Mr Haines' niece & any other family.
Larry was one of my very first TV 'crushes'. He was such a handsome dude!! I began watching SFT, where he played Stu Bergman, while waiting for my first child to be born (1960) I began watching the CBS soaps for past-time but was soon 'hooked'. Larry & Melba Rae, who played his spouse 'Marge' along with Mary Stuart, their best friend Joanne, were my favorite characters and I watched the show faithfully for many years... When Melba Rae died unexpectedly in 1971, it was a blow to the cast and the viewers. Much later Mary Stuart came to GL, which I also watched and she was there until poor health forced her to leave. She
passed away in 2002 and I know from interviews that she and Larry were still good friends. These 3 are the only actors from SFT whom I can recall the names of the actor & character, even though I watched the show off and on until its cancellation, in 1986.
I feel like I have lost a good friend with the passing of Larry.
I send sympathy to all of his family and friends and wish his spirit Godspeed to that place of eternal rest.
