Janet Mooney Obituary

ROTTERDAM Janet (Robbins) Mooney, 66, passed away Easter morning, Sunday, March 23, 2008, at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 11, 1941, in the Hamlet of Adirondack on the East side of Schroon Lake, the daughter of the late Lagrand and Hilda (Cleveland) Robbins. Janet's life was devoted to her family. She married her first and only love. Together, they created a home filled with love and happiness. Janet was a good friend to many and will be deeply missed. Janet went to a two-room schoolhouse grades 1 to 5, then to Pottersville Central School, where she graduated high school in a class of five students. She loved the Adirondacks and her family's history in it. Her interest in her hometown and the families there, along with a lot of encouragement from her own family, drove her to author the book "Reflections of the Past." Janet is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Robert Mooney; loving children: Robert F. Mooney (Lisa) of Esperance, Kelly Lester (Brian) of Rotterdam and Kathy Jo Gallo (Andrew) of Duanesburg; cherished grandchildren: Lauren, Jenna, Nicole, Salvatore and Domenic. She is also survived by her brothers, James (Peggy) Robbins and Erwin (Beverly) Robbins; her sisters, Elsie Haggerty and Barbara Mahler (Don); and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Her heartbroken family will miss her deeply. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, at St. Gabriel's Church, 3040 Hamburg St., Rotterdam. Calling hours will be today, March 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Route 155 south of Central Avenue) Interment will be at a later date at Adirondack Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308 and NYOH Community Cancer Foundation, 1003 Loudon Road, Latham, NY 12110. To all Janet's Family,
My daughter (Lisa Cameron) just sent the obit to me. I remember Janet in school, and also have her book. We went to P'ville together, graduated in 1961, and she would have known me as Elizabeth Snyder. My deepest sympathy to all of you. My Mother (Zada Snyder) also sends her sympathy.

My memories are of a sweet, studious, girl who was a student at Pottersville Central School. She was a few years younger than I. I have her book, "Reflections of the Past" and enjoy it very much. My husband and I wish to extend prayers and sympathy to the family. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
