Earl MacDuff Obituary

GANSEVOORT Earl J. MacDuff,Sr., USN Ret., "Pepa," 81, of Kobor Road, Gansevoort, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born in Troy, N.Y. on Sept. 27, 1926, he was the son of the late Edward G. and Alice (Ferguson) MacDuff. When Earl joined the Navy at the age of 17, he had to eat one pound of bananas to meet the weight requirements. Still, he went on to serve his country as machinists' mate for 26 years. Earl was both a World War II and Korean War veteran, who received numerous medals. Earl has spent nearly 50 years with the love of his life Anne (Dragon) MacDuff. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, camping and hunting. Earl loved sports, he held season tickets for the Adirondack Red Wings hockey games for 18 years and was an avid Yankees fan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Rory MacDuff; a brother, Edward R. "Butch" MacDuff; a sister, Yvonne Altizio; and his in-laws, Gerald and Evelyn Dragon Survivors besides his wife, Anne, include his children: Earl J. MacDuff Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Hudson Falls, Nancy Porlier and her husband, Joseph, of Gansevoort, Raymond MacDuff and his wife, Susan, of Dale City, Va., Shelly MacDuff of Glens Falls and Roderick MacDuff of South Glens Falls; a special "daughter," Michelle Smith; his former wife, Rose MacDuff and their children, a daughter-in-law, Eva MacDuff; his grandchildren: Matt and Kayla Porlier of Gansevoort, Daniel MacDuff who is stationed in Iraq, Kenneth MacDuff and Lauren MacDuff of Glens Falls, EJ MacDuff III and his wife, Billy Jo, Brandy Brockway and her husband, Matt, Christopher MacDuff, Nicole MacDuff, Scott Dudley and his wife, Mindy; several great-grandchildren; three brothers: Raymond E. MacDuff and his wife, Josephine, of Lake Luzerne, Francis E. MacDuff and his wife, Andrea, of Hudson Falls, and Wayne I. MacDuff Sr. and his wife, Debbie, of Hudson Falls; one sister, Ruth McMurry and her husband, John, of Hudson Falls; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and family may call today, April 24, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls. E-mail condolences may be sent at www.kilmers.com. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fort Edward. Following the service a reception will be held at St. Michael's school in South Glens Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Earl's name to the Gansevoort Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 172, Gansevoort, NY 12831 or to the Moreau Emer- gency Squad, Inc., 1583 state Route 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828-9433.
