Alice M. "Granny" Corrigan

GLEN LAKE and NOKOMIS, Fla. Alice M. "Granny" Corrigan, 95, of Chestnut Road, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on Aug. 10, 1912, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Dooney) Sullivan. Alice was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School. On Jan. 19, 1934, she married Archie P. Corrigan, who passed away on July 5, 1979. Alice was proud of the fact that she stayed home and raised her family. She and her husband, Archie, owned and operated Corrigan's Superette in Hudson Falls, when it was first opened in 1959. After her retirement from the superette, she was a sales clerk at Doyle's Gift and Garden Center in Queensbury for many years. According to her family she loved her work at Doyle's. Alice was a communicant of Our Lady of the Annunciation of Queensbury, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 194 Auxiliary, the Glen Lake Protective Association and the Queensbury Senior Citizens. Alice was an excellent cook, who enjoyed being around her family. She also loved playing cards and tending to her flower gardens. Alice was a loving mother who had a wonderful Irish wit and sense of humor. She was known as having an impeccable sense of style. As a grandmother, she gave the best advice. Granny had a very special bond will her grandchildren, especially her youngest, Nicole. For well over 30 years, she spent her winters in Nokomis, Fla., but, her favorite place in the world was Glen Lake, where she resided for 65 years. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert J. Corrigan who passed away on Oct. 19, 2007, and her sister, Kathryn Macey. Survivors include her children, William J. Corrigan of Venice, Fla., Patrick J. Corrigan and his wife, Darlene, of Hudson Falls, Kay Mary Williamson and her husband, Ronald, of Argyle and Thomas J. Corrigan and his wife, Susan, of Glen Lake. Alice truly loved and enjoyed her grandchildren, Susan Staton, Michael Corrigan, Diana Corrigan, Matt Corrigan, Tim Corrigan, Colleen Corrigan, Danny Corrigan, Nadine Healey, John Goodro, Nicole Beaty, Maureen Lanfear and Sean Corrigan; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Homeward Bound Program and all the home health care givers for their wonderful, compassionate and loving care given to Alice and her family. Friends may call today, June 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary's/St. Paul's Catholic Church on the park in Hudson Falls. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
