Gertrude Duell Obituary

FORT EDWARD and ORLANDO, Fla. Gertrude "Gerty" Eleanor Hunsperger Duell, 93, died at Glens Falls Hospital on Tuesday, June 5, 2008. She was born on Nov. 10, 1914, in Pine Island, Minn. Gertrude was the sixth child of Ida Wittwer Hunsperger and Julius Arnold Hunsperger and attended Fort Edward High School. She married Robert Duell on Jan. 16, 1939, and worked with her husband in the flooring business. In 1953 they moved to Florida where they worked together on a large newspaper route until Robert's death in 1986. Gertrude returned to the Glens Falls area in 1998, spending time with her sister, Pearl Stark in West Fort Ann and most recently at the Orchard Nursing Home in Granville, N.Y. She was known for her love of dogs, horses, basketball, baseball and golf with Tiger Woods. Gertrude was predeceased by her siblings, Helen Maloy of LeRoy, N.Y., John Hunsperger of Lakewood, N.Y., Walter Hunsperger of Hudson Falls, Dora Case of Saratoga Springs, Ruth Weaver of Hebron, Otto Hunsperger of Fort Edward and Emmy Smith of South Glens Falls. She is survived by her sister, Pearl Stark of West Fort Ann; her brother, Paul Hunsperger of Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. At Gerdy's request there will be no public calling hours or funeral services. A memorial service will be held in the West Fort Ann Methodist Church at a later date at the convenience of the family.
