Jerome Market Obituary

QUEENSBURY Jerome "Jerry" F. Market, 73, of Revere Road, Queensbury passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008, at his home. Born in Brooklyn on Nov. 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph and Eileen (Irish) Market. Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era, entering in 1953, and being honorably discharged in 1955. Formerly of Seaford, N.Y. where he resided with his wife, Joan, and children, Janice and James, he worked for the Local No. 12 as a fund manager for heat and frost insulators of New York City. Jerry also was a proud, active member of the Warren County Democratic Committee, serving as the town of Queensbury chairman, and worked closely with the Board of Elections. Following his retirement, Jerry and Joan moved to Queensbury to be closer to their family. His enjoyments included playing golf with his wife. He also took pleasure in riding his Gold Wing trike, boating with his family, and loved visiting Las Vegas as much as possible. His main priority was his family. He was always at his grandson's sporting and school events, along with his wife, Joan. Besides his parents, his beloved wife of 48 years, Joan (Kassel) Market predeceased him on June 1, 2006. Survivors include one daughter, Janice Sorrentino and her husband, Richard, of Queensbury; one son, James Market of Long Island; five grandchildren: Michael, Nicholas, and Benjamin Sorrentino of Queensbury, and Michelle and Alexandra Market of Syosset, N.Y.; also several nieces, nephews, their families, and many dear friends. Friends may call upon the family Wednesday, July 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations, in loving memory of Jerry, may be made to Glens Falls Hospital Guild, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801. The family wishes to thank all the personnel who responded in a professional and caring manner to Jerry's home, and to Dr. Borgos and Dr. Sponzo for their compassionate care. Condolences may be e-mailed through www.bakerfuneral home.com, or mailed to Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
