Joseph Rath Obituary

SOUTH GLENS FALLS Joseph E. Rath, 46, of Tanglewood Drive in South Glens Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 11, 2008. Born on March 21, 1962 in Glens Falls, he was the son of Marilyn O'Neil of South Glens Falls and the late Francis Rath. Joe graduated from South Glens Falls High School in 1980. After graduation, he attended Adirondack Community College to study Culinary Arts. For 14 years, he was married to the mother of his children, Patricia (Mumblo) Rath. Joe was employed by Grand Union for over 15 years, at many of the area stores. At one time, he was made a store manager. Joe loved his work and was very well liked by all of his co-workers. The most important part of Joe's life was spending time with his two sons, Shawn and Jeff. He would do anything for them. Joe loved the times they spent snowmobiling, camping and fishing. When he wasn't enjoying his children, Joe spent his time reading, cooking and downhill skiing. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was well liked by everyone that he met. Joe loved to have a good time. For the last few years, he was very proud to have taken care of his mother. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Roland O'Neil; his grandparents, Ralph and Frances Johnston; his aunt, Dorothy Lee and his uncle, Robert E. Lee. Survivors include his mother, Marilyn O'Neil of South Glens Falls; his two devoted sons, Shawn Rath and Jeff Rath, both of Hudson Falls; their mother, Patricia Rath of Hudson Falls; his companion and best friend, Sundae Milko of Queensbury; his uncle, Robert Johnston and his wife, Shirley of Hudson Falls; his aunt, Carol Ives and her husband, James of New Hampshire; several cousins; and his pets, Zeek and Honey. Friends may call on Saturday, July 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Saturday following the calling hours at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Lefurgey, pastor of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Moreau Emergency Squad, 1583 Route 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828. Online condolences may be sent to our Web site at www.carletonfuneralhome.com.

I didn't know Joseph, but my heart goes out to you. He was three years younger that I am, much to young to be taken to heaven. My deepest sympathies.
