Shirley Howard Obituary

GREENFIELD CENTER Shirley B. Howard, 74, of Greenfield Center, beloved mother of Pamela and Linus Howard, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2008, after a valiant fight against an aggressive form of leukemia. Having lived in Greenfield Center for nearly 50 years, she counted among her friends the many faculty and staff at Corinth Central School where she taught remedial reading and 2nd grade for nearly 25 years. In addition to her friends that she cherished deeply, her passions included literature, music, gardening, her country home and traveling. A caring, sensitive and gentle woman, there were no bounds to the love, warmth and sacrifice that she showered on her children and family. In addition to her children, Shirley is survived by her brother, Walter C. Brandt and sister-in-law, Phyllis; niece, JoAnne Zelker and her husband, David; nephew, Ted Brandt and his wife, Mary; niece, Susan Frankowski; along with several cousins and many great-nephews and great-nieces. She was predeceased by her mother, Helen Vogel Brandt and her father, Walter C. Brandt of Glenville, and her niece, Lynn Brandt Mehollin of North Carolina. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Burnt Hills, followed by a reception at Shirley's Greenfield Center home approxmiately at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
