Gladys Walsh Obituary

CORINTH Gladys E. Walsh, 84, of Main Street, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at her home following a brief illness. Born on Oct. 28, 1923, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Lynwood and Emma (Ackley) Carpenter. She married Francis Walsh on June 14, 1947, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Corinth. He died Aug. 11, 1975, following 28 years of marriage. Mrs. Walsh worked at the International Paper Co. in Corinth for 41 years until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the IP Quarter Century Club. She was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Corinth for many years and was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, reading, knitting, and also enjoyed her pet cat, Muffit. Besides her husband and her parents, she was also predeceased by one brother, Lawrence Carpenter and one sister, Pauline Spires. Survivors include one niece, Corrine Benn and her husband, Jonathan of Albany and one nephew, Brian Woodard and his wife, Michelle of Galway; two great-nephews, Geoffrey and Jeremy Benn of Albany; a brother-in-law, Edward Spires of Wilton; several cousins; and a special god child, Patrick Harran and his wife, Susan, of Dallas, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 403 Palmer Ave., Corinth with the Rev. Charles Gaffigan, pastor, officiating. A rite of committal will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Corinth. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at the Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday evening, at the funeral home. Donations in Gladys' memory may be made to the Building Fund at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 403 Palmer Ave., Corinth, NY 12822. Gladys wished to thank Father Gaffigan and the Eucaristic Ministers of the church for their visits and for communion, and also a special thank you to Dawn Bovee for her kindness and assistance over the years.

I had the pleasure of knowing Gladys when we both worked at International Paper Company; I have very fond memories of her. She led a good life & leaves her loved ones with such beautiful memories! God bless you all.
