Joyce Steele Obituary

CHICAGO, Ill. and HUDSON FALLS Joyce (Malan) Steele, 69, of Chicago, Ill., passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Chicago, Ill. Born on Feb. 17, 1939, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late John and Kathryn (Joyce) Malan. Joyce graduated as salutatorian from Hudson Falls High School in 1956 and later attended Syracuse University as a journalism major. She was employed by Dole, EMC & Red Owl in public relations and later was a private consultant in Chicago. Joyce has lived all over this country, including Minnesota, Chicago and San Francisco. While living in San Francisco, Joyce was very proud to have received communion from Pope John Paul II. She loved to read and travel. Cooking was also one of her favorite past times. Joyce was a wonderful cook and never afraid to try new recipes. But, there was nothing she loved more than her family and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Patrick Malan. Survivors include her children: Laura Pelletier and her husband, William, of Evanston, Ill., Ronald Steele and his wife, Kleshia, of Morton, Ill. and Keith Steele and his wife, Dawn, of Des Plaines, Ill.; her grandchildren: Keaton, Hilton, Melody, Erik, Steffanie and Nathan; her sister, Susan Potter and her husband, Richard, of South Glens Falls; her brothers, John Malan and his wife, Lorry, of Hudson Falls, Michael Malan and his wife, Ann Marie, of St. Louis, Mo., Daniel Malan and his wife, Sandra, of St. Louis, Mo. and Matthew Malan and his wife, Julie, of Queensbury; her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Citera and her husband, Joseph, of Long Island; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday, at the Church of St. Mary/St. Paul on the park in Hudson Falls. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward. Memorial contributions in Joyce's memory may be made to the National Hospice Foundation, 1700 Diagonal Road, Alexandria, VA 22314. Sorry to hear of Joyce's passing. I was a class mate of hers. We had our 50th reunion 2 years ago and was so happy Joyce came to it. My sympathy to her family. I spoke to another class mate this morning and she wants to send her condolence to you too. Her name is Pat Wescott Brayton
