Helen Ely Obituary

NORTH GRANVILLE, N.Y. Helen F. "Peg" Ely passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2008, at St. Peter's Hospital, Hospice Unit. Helen was born on March 24, 1922, in Belcher, N.Y., the daughter of Bert and Eunice (Bain) Wilson. Peg owned and operated her own beauty salon in Cohoes prior to returning to Granville. While in Granville she had been employed as a driver for the Washington County EOC. Though in her 70's she thoroughly enjoyed driving "elderly" people to appointments. She was an avid Mets fan. Helen enjoyed flowers and appreciated the beauty of a garden. While not an avid gardener, she preferred to enjoy the flowers in a natural setting vs. cut. Her hands were kept occupied with crocheting. Her family was an immense enjoyment to her, and she was always glad to play a hand or two of poker with them. Helen is survived by two sons, Donald Ely and his companion, Gail Anderson, of Saratoga, and Richard Ely and his companion, Barb Caiazza, of Granville, two daughters, Carol King of Mechanicville and Kay Ely and her husband, Jack Guay, of South Glens Falls. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Shawn Williams, Shane Ely and Eric Ely all of Granville, Kimberly Ely of Wells, Vt., Karen Prevost of Granville, Kevin Ely of Truthville, Kimmer King of Cohoes, Cheryl Piskutz of Albany and Denise Petteys of Hartford; and eight great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Helen's good friends Madeline (Maude) Brown and Roberta Morris will also miss her. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Walter Ely and two brothers, Ray Wilson and Russell Wilson. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at 11a.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville with the Rev. Robert Flower officiating. Burial will be in North Hebron Cemetery. Following the burial, the family wishes to extend an invitation to friends to gather at the North Granville Community Center. Friends may call on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Haynes House of Hope, P.O. Box 285, Granville, NY 12832.
