Katherine Sisson Obituary

POUGHKEEPSIE Katherine Sisson of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Monday, July 21, 2008, at Hudson Valley Rehabilitation Center in Highland. She was 93. Daughter of the late Henry W. and Rowena Taylor Sisson, she was born on May 3, 1915, in Glens Falls. She graduated from Lake George High School and Geneseo Normal School. She received degrees from Columbia University and SUNY New Paltz. Before coming to Wappingers Falls, she taught in Lake George for 10 years. Katherine lived in the city and town of Poughkeepsie for 40 years, formerly living in Wappingers Falls and Lake George. She was a teacher in the Wappingers Central School District for 27 years until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of the Wappingers Congress of Retired Teachers and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. In her spare time, she volunteered locally as board member and volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Wappingers Falls and also a volunteer at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was a member of the Ralph T. Waterman Bird Club and the Mid-Hudson Chapter of the Adirondack Hiking Club. Katherine was also a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls and sang in their choir. Survivors include her nephew, Andrew B. Morris of Poughkeepsie. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, Satterlee Place in Wappingers Falls, Father Horace Choate will officiate. Inurnment will take place on Monday, July 28, at 2 p.m. in the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery, Lake George. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Katherine's name to Meals on Wheels, 2568 South Ave., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. Arrangements are under the direction of Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. Dear Andy-it has benn almost 60 years since we spoke-my mom Helen Thomson was one month younger than Kay and knew her all her life She died in april--My sympathy to you-I am back in Lake George for the summer -would like to hear from you-Patricia Thomson Smith
