Joanne Hall Obituary

Indian Lake Joanne R. Hall, 58, of East Main Street, died Friday morning, July 25, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 5, 1950 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Joan (Montross) Riley. She was a graduate of Columbia High School in East Greenbush. She moved to Indian Lake in the early 1970s and married Howard "Berry" Hall on Sept. 20, 1975 at St. Mary's Church in Indian Lake. Joanne was employed as a bartender at several area hotels and taverns in the area, including Potters, Bruin Haven, Marty's and the Log Inn. She also had worked at the Grand Union in Indian Lake and most recently was an exhibit attendant at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake for 14 years. She enjoyed crocheting, especially baby sweater sets, which have become treasured family heirlooms. She also enjoyed baking, cooking and canning to share with her family and friends. Most important to Joanne was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and the Hamilton County Board of Elections. She was a former Girl Scouts of America troop leader. She was predeceased by one brother, John Riley. Survivors include her loving husband of 32 years, Howard "Berry" Hall Sr.; one son, Howard Hall Jr. of Indian Lake; two daughters, Miranda Toffolo and her husband, Louis, of Queens and Anna Hall of Indian Lake; one grandson, Jacob Hall of Indian Lake; two sisters, Donna Husson and her husband, Richard, of Indian Lake, Kelly Gallagher of Paulsboro, N.J.; three brothers, Michael Riley of Cohoes, James Riley of Rochester, Alfred Riley II and his wife, Darlene, of Rensselaer; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, 35 West Main St., Indian Lake. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, Indian Lake, with the Rev. Sony Pulickal, pastor, officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow in Cedar River Cemetery, Indian Lake. Pallbearers will be Kevin Husson, Justin Husson, Louis Toffolo, Daniel Hall, Jamie Hall and Mikey Riley.

To My Aunt Joanne,
I am sorry that we did not get to know each other as adults better than we did. And I am so very sorry that my children and my boyfriend never got to meet you. Time has a way of slipping by ever so quickly and quietly and I never got a chance to tell you how very much we love you. I hope that you have accomplished everything that you wanted in life and that you enjoyed every second of it. I want you to know that I have thought about you a lot over these last few years and all of the trials that were thrown your way. And I hope that when the time comes, I have the strength and courage to push forward as you did. I want to thank you for always being kind & caring. As we get older and get married or have children, and life seems to bridge us from the ones that we love, I have learned that it does not mean that you do not love them or that they do not love you. Life and time manage to separate us all, as we have to take care of what is right in front of us, and we say I'll make that call later or I'll send that letter tomorrow, but sometimes it doesn't happen that way. I have also learned that there is a time and place for everything, and that we all have to do right by ourselves and for ourselves before we can do so for others. I feel as though I will be all the wiser in my journey's for these lessons. I know that you are no longer suffering or in pain, and that you are in a better place. I also know that you are ONE OF and have quite a few BEAUTIFUL ANGELS to guide you. Know that you are loved and will forever be missed by us all. So, put those brand new wings to good use and always know how much you are LOVED AND MISSED, NOW AND ALWAYS!!!!

MY deepest sympathies to all of you. Joanne was one of the most courageous people I know. Even though she was in such turmoil herself, I never once saw her when she wasn't asking how I was or how my family was doing. I will miss her greatly. May she rest in peace with all of our angels.
