Dorothy Perkett Obituary
Queensbury Dorothy A. Perkett, 95, of the Glen at Highland Meadows, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born in Troy, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Charles Frederick and Lottie Augusta Braman Clark; for 54 years was married to H. Richard Perkett, who died in 1993; and was the longtime partner of William J. Lockhart.
An active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, Dorothy served as an elder, and as pastor's assistant for 17 years, which involved social services work, hospital calling and follow-up concern for the sick and elderly. She became "Pastor's Assistant Emeritus" in 1977. During that time she held various offices in Presbytery and was past president of Church Women United.
Dorothy graduated Glens Falls High School, Class of 1931, attended Rochester University, and in 1935 graduated Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Troy, N.Y., as a registered nurse.
She was a member of the American Red Cross Nursing Service during World War II. Dorothy worked as a registered professional nurse and a member of the teaching staff at Samaritan Hospital and as a general duty nurse at Glens Falls Hospital. She was past president of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild.
Mrs. Perkett was a founder and past president of Greater Adirondack Home Aides, past president of the board of directors of the Glens Falls Home, past president of the Glens Falls Zonta Club, an organizer of Planned Parenthood of Glens Falls, and a former member of Warren County Health Services Advisory Board. A former member of the Warren County Cancer Society, she was a director of the N.Y. State Division board of the American Cancer Society. She was a former director of the Northern District of N.Y. State Congress of Parents and Teachers and the state mental health chairman of that organization. For several years, Dorothy was a den mother for Cub Scout Pack No. 72 in Ticonderoga, N.Y.
She is survived by her children, Charles Richard Perkett and his wife, Ilene, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, and Cynthia Jean Fair and her husband, Gerald, of Meadowlake, Texas. She is the sister of Emily C. Brown of Lebanon, Ohio, the late Rev. Dr. Robert B. Clark of Warsaw, Ind., the late Alma C. Lowther of Waterford, N.Y., and a cousin, Gaylord G. Starin, of Kelseyville, Calif. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Glen Street, Glens Falls, on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Glens Falls Cemetery, Bay Street, Glens Falls.
Relatives and friends may call at the Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury, on Friday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m.
