Leeland O'Neal Obituary

Glens Falls Leeland R. O'Neal, 78, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital. He was born on June 29, 1930 in Bedford, Pa. and was the son of the late Morton and Inez (Miller) O'Neal. Mr. O'Neal was a graduate of Everett High School in Everett, Pa., where he was captain of the football team and met his wife of 50-plus years, Joanne Fletcher. He was a member of the armed forces during the Korean War. Leeland was also a graduate of Syracuse University, where he obtained his bachelor's degree. Mr. O'Neal was a manager in the education department for IBM, where he worked for more than 35 years until he retired in 1989. He was also a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where he was active in low-income housing and Habitat for Humanity. He loved Lake George, N.Y., where he spent summers on the lake with family and friends and was trustee at the Lakeside Chapel. Leeland always looked forward to the annual Polar Bear Swim on New Year's Day. He also was an avid snow skier, skiing in many areas of Vermont and New York, including Killington and White Face. Leeland loved to play tennis and hike and was inducted into the Adirondack 46ers. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Joanne R. O'Neal, who passed away in September 2007. Survivors include his three sons: Jeffrey O'Neal of Gaithersburg, Md. and his wife Gina, and two grandsons, Shane and Patrick; Keith O'Neal of Niskayuna, N.Y. and his wife Barbara, and three granddaughters: Kelsey, Carra, and Brilynn; and Steve O'Neal of Albany, N.Y. and one brother, Darrel O'Neal of Columbus, Ohio. A memorial service will be held 12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at United Church of Christ in Clearville, Pa. A private Memorial Service with immediate family was held on Lake George, N.Y. on Sunday, July 27, 2008. Arrangements were under the direction of the Regan and Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury, NY.
