Richard Bolan Obituary

Newcomb Richard Bolan Jr., 73, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008, at his home in Newcomb, following a long illness. Richard was born Feb. 23, 1935 in Paterson, N.J., the son of the late Richard and Anna Jacobus Bolan Sr. He was the youngest of five children. Richard was predeceased by a brother, Wilber Bolan. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War, having served our country in the U.S. Army. He served many years as a volunteer fireman in Stockholm, N.J. He worked in textiles all his life before being forced to retire due to emphysema. Even during his illness he continued to make beautiful quilts for his grandchildren, which were the light of his life. Richard treasured the time he volunteered at the Newcomb Visitor Interpretive Center, where he made many friends and made many smile. He will always be remembered for his great wit and humor. Richard is survived by three sons: Richard III and his wife, Eloise, of Mayfield, N.J., Thomas of Westfield, N.J., Kevin and his wife, Denise, of Newcomb; his two daughters, Gaynette Bolan, of New Jersey, and Kelly and her husband, George Goula, of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; his sisters, Jean Bivona of Hollandale, Fla., Mildred Last of Riverdale, N.J., and Joan Hossack of Haledon, N.J., and nine grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, Aug.2, 2008 at noon at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church in Newcomb. The Rev. Peter Berg will officiate. Richard's family will receive friends from 11:30 until noon at St. Therese Catholic Church, in Newcomb. The family suggests that memorials take the form of donations to the Newcomb Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Newcomb, NY 12852. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home, Schroon Lake.
