Alice O'Sick Obituary

GLENS FALLS Alice E. O'Sick, 76, of Nelson Street, Glens Falls, passed away at her home early Tuesday morning, Oct. 16, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. Born June 24, 1931, in Queensbury, she was the daughter of the late George and Susie (Waldron) Brown. Following graduation from Glens Falls High School, Alice worked at various places, most recently at Hansen's Appliance and Laundry in Glens Falls. Above all, her family was most important to her along with helping anyone in need. She married Joseph M. O'Sick on Oct. 27, 1951, and although they divorced, they remained friends. Her enjoyments included garage sales, shopping, watching CNN and Court TV, caring for others and looking forward to visits from her grandchildren. Besides her parents and her former husband, Joseph O'Sick, her namesake, aunt Alice LeBrun predeceased her. Survivors include three daughters: Joanne Stannard and her husband, Fred, of Warrensburg, Pam Mills of Glens Falls and Susan Cambra and her husband, Malcolm "Mac," of Palm Bay, Fla.; one son, Patrick O'Sick and his fiancée, Ann Cutter, of Glens Falls; seven grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as gramma, kitty gramma, gigi, and mimi, Allison Stannard Mays and her husband, Christopher, of Raleigh, N.C., Stephanie Mills Normandin and her husband, Philip, of Glens Falls, David Mills and his companion, Jennifer Parent, of Glens Falls, Jessica Stannard and her companion, Danny McTague, of Warrensburg, Eric Mills of Glens Falls, Meaghan Cambra of Palm Bay, Fla., and Patrick O'Sick II of Glens Falls; four great-grandchildren: Jack A. Normandin, Zachary and Tyler Quinn Mays, and Chloe A. Mills; two brothers, George Brown Jr. and his wife, Helen, and Frank Brown and his wife, Carol, all of Glens Falls; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends, as well as her beloved cat, "Max." At Alice's request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates, chaplain of High Peaks Hospice, officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Street Cemetery, Glens Falls. Donations in loving memory of Alice may be made to High Peaks Hospice, 286 Glen St., Glens Falls, NY 12801. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at High Peaks Hospice, Ridge Street Fire and Rescue Squad, Empire Ambulance Service, Warren County Public Health nurses, and best friends, Joyce Close, Barb Cutler, Anna Hansen, Evelyn Keays and Melody Allen, who would often check in on Alice. Alice,
I am glad that I had you in my life. You were one of the two greatest grandmothers that I could ask to have my child have! There were many times that I called you last minute to take care of Patrick & you never refused. When you looked at him, it was like looking at him through my own eyes. I could actually feel the LOVE. I would just like to say "thank you from the bottom of my heart & that life will never be the same without you."
Love Always and Forever,
Ann

Pat, my deepest sympathy goes out to you. I know how much you loved your mother and the pain will never completely go away but your friends will always be there for you. She must have been a great woman because she passed down to you the best she had to offer and in the process left behind a kind and caring man.

Dear Pam, Joanne and Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I don't have to tell you what a wonderful woman your Mom was as you knew her better than anyone. As you know I worked with your Mom for years at Hansen's and we had some really good times. We would never run out of things to talk about, she would share stories about her kids and grandkids, and listen to my stories as well. I am sorry that I didn't have the opportunity to get to see her before her passing. She was a special person to me and so many others. I will always remember her warmth and kindness and I hope the love and memories you shared will give you the strength to get through the difficult days ahead. You are all in my prayers.

Fondly,

Erika Randall

As a friend and neighbor for many years, Alice was so dear to her family and friends. Always with a smile on her face and a strong hinge on that screen door, she did her best to keep peace on the block! Lots of good times will be remembered on her Cherry Street corner! She will be missed! My sympathies to the families!
