Elda Monroe Obituary

LAKE GEORGE Elda K. Monroe, 91, of Harrington Hill Road, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at her home. Born Jan. 29, 1916, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Sadie (Woodward) Davis. Elda was a lifelong resident of the area and married Leon E. Monroe in 1936. Leon passed away on June 11, 1968, after 32 years of marriage. Over the years, Elda worked at various shirt factories in the area. She also worked at the Warren County Adult Home and for the Warrensburg Central School system for 16 years. She was a member of the Warrensburg First Baptist Church for over 80 years. Her favorite pastimes included knitting, crocheting, crafts, making wedding cakes, gardening and listening to Daniel O'Donnell music. Besides her beloved husband, her sister, Hattie Larrow also predeceased her. Survivors include her three daughters: Barbara Ovitt and her husband, Richard, of Warrensburg, Sandra Burke and her husband, Robert, of Appomattox, Va. and Linda Steve and her husband, Jerry, of Queensbury; her son, Wayne Monroe and his wife, Karen, of Pottersville; one sister, Abby Hastings of Warrensburg; two brothers, Robert Davis of Winnebago, Minn. and Clifton Davis and his wife, Alice, of Lake George; six granddaughters; two grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Elda's family from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Aubrey officiating. Burial will follow in North Caldwell Cemetery, Lake George.
